Purposely Positive yOUTH prEVENTION prOGRAM (ppypp)

The Purposely Positive Youth Prevention Program is designed to empower youth with six core positivity domains: Positive Mindset,

Self-Understanding, Self-Control, Social Awareness, Emotional Intelligence, and Wise Choices. The 16-week program aligns with North Carolina’s Education Standards, Casel's and the DESSA’s six core SEL competencies:

self-awareness, optimistic thinking,

self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

Key Program Components:

  • Evidence-based SEL tiered curriculum

  • Group-level mentoring with trained facilitators

  • Parental engagement and mental health support services

  • Positive reinforcement incentive system

  • Community partnerships for resource provision

Target Population:

The program targets middle and high school males (ages 12-18) who:
 

  • Are at risk of school suspension or expulsion

  • Exhibit low SEL competencies

  • Experience chronic absenteeism or disciplinary issues

  • Seek additional support for social-emotional development

Program Logistics:
 

  • Duration: 16 weeks (one session per week)

  • Session Length: 1 hour 30 minutes

  • Capacity: Minimum 25 students per cohort

Instructors:

Trained facilitators (certified life coaches, Mental Health First Aid certified, CPR certified)
